Usambara Mountains
The Usambara Mountains are one of Tanzania’s most beautiful and lesser-known natural destinations. Located in northeastern Tanzania, about 110 km west of Tanga and close to Mkomazi National Park, this mountain range offers lush landscapes, cool temperatures, and breathtaking views.
The region is famous for its rolling hills, fertile valleys, tropical forests, and traditional villages. With its peaceful atmosphere and scenic hiking trails, the Usambara Mountains are a perfect destination for travelers looking to experience Tanzania’s nature beyond the classic safari parks.
Despite their beauty, the Usambara Mountains remain relatively undiscovered, making them a wonderful destination for hiking enthusiasts, birdwatchers, and nature lovers who prefer quieter places.
The mountains form part of the Eastern Arc Mountain range, a chain of ancient mountains known for their exceptional biodiversity. The Usambara range stretches approximately 90 kilometers in length and was formed nearly two million years ago through geological uplifting and faulting.
