Nyerere National Park

Nyerere National Park, formerly known as Selous Game Reserve, is one of the largest protected wilderness areas in the world. Located in southern Tanzania, this vast landscape covers more than 50,000 square kilometers, making it larger than some entire countries.

The park was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982 due to its extraordinary biodiversity and relatively untouched natural environment. Unlike the busier northern parks, Nyerere offers a more remote safari experience where visitors can explore huge stretches of wilderness with very few crowds.

Although it lies far from Tanzania’s well-known northern safari circuit, Nyerere National Park rewards travelers with dramatic scenery, rich wildlife populations, and unique safari activities.
