Mikumi National Park

Mikumi National Park is one of the most accessible wildlife destinations in southern Tanzania. Known for its wide open plains and diverse wildlife, the park is often compared to the famous Serengeti because of its expansive landscapes and rich animal populations.

Located near the town of Morogoro, Mikumi shares an ecosystem with the vast Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve) to the south. Together, these protected areas form one of the largest wildlife regions in Africa. Mikumi is also known for its unique sightings of tree-climbing lions, which are occasionally seen resting in the branches of large trees.
